iPhone SE buying guide

2nd gen or 3rd gen

  • iPhone SE (3rd gen, 2022): A15 chip and 5G. Faster, and the better pick if you want it to last.
  • iPhone SE (2nd gen, 2020): A13 chip and 4G LTE. The lowest price for a phone that runs iOS 26.

Who the SE suits

Both models look the same: a 4.7-inch screen, a home button with Touch ID, one 12MP rear camera and wireless charging. They're a good fit if you want a small phone, prefer a fingerprint to Face ID, or are buying a first phone for a kid. Both run iOS 26 and charge with Lightning. They don't have MagSafe magnets, though they work with standard Qi wireless chargers.

What the grades mean

Excellent, Good and Fair only differ in how the outside looks. Every grade passes the same tests, has battery health of 80% or higher and gets the same 1-year warranty, which also covers accidental damage like a cracked screen or a drop.
