Which model
- iPhone XR: 6.1-inch LCD screen, A12 chip, Face ID and good battery life.
- iPhone XS and XS Max: A12 chip, sharp OLED screens (5.8 or 6.5 inches) and a telephoto camera.

Software updates
These phones no longer get new iOS versions. The iPhone 8 and X stop at iOS 16, and the XR, XS and XS Max at iOS 18. Calls, texts, the camera and many popular apps still work, but some apps, including some banking apps, may stop supporting them over time. The XR, XS and XS Max will stay compatible longer. All of them use 4G LTE and charge with Lightning.
What the grades mean
Excellent, Good and Fair only differ in how the outside looks. Every grade passes the same tests, has battery health of 80% or higher and gets the same 1-year warranty, which also covers accidental damage like a cracked screen or a drop.
