Who it's for
Good for
- Basic streaming, reading and video calls
- A thin, light iPad for kids or the kitchen
- A laminated screen that looks sharper than base iPads of its era
Not for
- Apple Pencil (not supported)
- Apps that need iPadOS 16 or later (updates ended at iPadOS 15)
- Games and heavier apps
Our verdict
A budget tablet for simple jobs like video, recipes and reading. Software support has ended, so for a main iPad the iPad 9 is a much better long-term buy.
