Who it's for
Good for
- Retina display with a reliable scissor keyboard

- Students and light photo editing
- Users who don't want dongles
Not for
- Apps that need macOS 13 or later (tops out at macOS 12 Monterey)

Our verdict
A favorite older MacBook: Retina screen, a keyboard that holds up and the ports you need. A smart budget buy if you can live with the Monterey limit.
