Who it's for
Good for
- Travel and writing: about 2 lb
- Retina screen in a tiny, fanless body
- Secondary laptop for notes and web
Not for
- Anything demanding (fanless Core m chip)
- Apps that need macOS 13 or later (tops out at Monterey)
- Multiple ports (one USB-C)
Our verdict
The 2016 12-inch MacBook: a bit faster than the 2015 and supported one year longer. Good as a travel or writing machine; the 2017 model is faster still and runs Ventura.
